As I mentioned below we’re currently playing at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, for their double bill of Dido & Aeneas and Acis & Galatea. A few of us from the office got the opportunity to attend the dress rehearsal last friday, where we snatched

these two pictures. Its essentially a final run through before the performance, and feels much like a real performance, but with a few minor differences. First the auditorium is half empty – its mainly filled with people connected with the production in some way, Opera House staff, Friends of the Opera House etc. Second not all the singers ‘sing out’, they’re saving their voices for opening night. Third, it is still a working rehearsal, so the conductor is often to be seen leaning back wispering notes and comments to a colleague sat in the front row of the stalls. Lastly, the whole performance is accompanied by a background clatter of noise

from the barrage of cameras set up in the stalls – taking shots of the production which will eventually end up in the press, on the Opera House website or in their brochures. The production opened last night and there has already been a review.
