What do monsters and opera have in common? Listen as astrologer and OAE enthusiast Shelley von Strunckel takes you on a guided tour of opera’s more mystical and mysterious realms….

She’ll be examining a piece of the OAE’s core operatic repertoire, Mozart’s The Magic Flute, talking a close look at its more mystical elements, as well as exploring other operas with mystical inclinations including Parsifal, Medea and The Fairy Queen.

We’ll also discuss the influence of the Scientific Revolution on mystics’ thinking, how it has influenced directors’ interpretations of plays and operas and how mysticism links to the present day- especially in popular TV and film series.

The session lasts 2 hours including a break and tickets include a free tea or coffee and a pastry.

  • This was my Music A-level set piece, when I learned that all good things came in threes.
