Mendelssohn Overture, The Hebrides
Mendelssohn Symphony No. 3 in A minor, Scottish
Schumann Piano Concerto in A minor
Sir András Schiff conductor/piano
Following his triumphant debut two seasons ago, András Schiff returns to the OAE. In the first half of this concert he’ll direct two of Mendelssohn’s best-loved pieces, both inspired by his travels around Scotland, with the dark opening bars of his vivid Scottish symphony being inspired by Holyrood Palace. In the second half András takes to the keyboard for Schumann’s eloquent piano concerto
OAE Extras at 5.45pm, auditorium, free admission
Stephen Carpenter, previous OAE Chief Executive, and now of Mendelssohn in Scotland, talks about the composer’s travels in Scotland and the composition of the Scottish Symphony.
