Kati Debretzeni releases her inner angel (or devil) as she leads the OAE at the York Early Music Festival.

Two virtuoso violinists –Frenchman Jean-Marie Leclair and the Italian Pietro Locatelli both died 250 years ago. One awestruck listener who heard them both play dubbed them the ‘angel’ and ‘devil’ of the violin respectively, but their contrasting roles for this performance are taken by just one player – OAE leader Kati Debretzeni. The concert opens with a richly-scored overture by Christoph Graupner who originally edged out JS Bach in the auditions for the post of Thomaskantor in Leipzig.  Also featuring music from CPE Bach and Nicolò Jomelli, who were both born in 1714.

Christoph Graupner Overture in G, GWV 462
Nicolò Jomelli Trio-sonata No 7 in G
Pietro Locatelli Introduzzione teatrale No 6 in C
Jean Marie Leclair Concerto in E minor for violin
Jean Marie Leclair Deuxieme recreation de musique
Pietro Locatelli Concerto Il Pianto d’Arianna
CPE Bach Sinfonia in G, Wq 182 No 1
