Richard Tognetti is leading our concert, Lord of the Strings, in London and on tour around the country. He’s a world renowned violinist, Artistic Director and leader of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, surfer, composer…

What are you looking forward to most about working with the OAE?

Gut strings, open mindedness, exploring common repertoire in a new way.

What do you fear the most?

That old chestnut of fear of fear, and squeaky gut e strings in humid weather.

What – or where – is perfection?

The void

Who is your favourite hero from fiction (book/comic/film/opera), and why?

Goldmund from Hermann Hesse’s Narcissus and Goldmund

What other talent or skill would you like to possess?

Breathing under water.

What could you not live without on tour? Any touring rituals?

The thought of home.

What has been the most memorable – for good or bad reasons – performance you’ve ever given?

I’d rather lose the bad memories to the ether.  Most memorable are in community halls and sheds to people craving new experience.

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?

Fall, dust off, up you get.
