As you may have seen, inbetween performances at Glyndebourne this summer we have been jetting off to particpate in another of Europe’s great summer music festivals – the Salzburg Festival. There we’ve been performing Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, with conductor Robin Ticciati – with the run finishing this weekend just gone. A close shave for Figaro

So yesterday was ‘interesting’… We had an early start at Heathrow, for the 9.30am flight to Munich, en route to Salzburg for the evening’s performance of The Marriage of Figaro. We even had the company of star fellow passenger Boris Becker. But a cracked window on the plane led to a cancelled flight and the available next one wasn’t till 1pm. Boris of course got put in Business Class on the 11am…

It was going to be tight – 4pm arrival, minimum 2hr coach trip and 7pm curtain up. We eventually arrived at 7.15, to be greeted by photographers and an applauding audience who thought we were late because we had been battling through the London riots! Curtain up was at 7.45pm in the end and we all had a ‘few’ drinks afterwards to recover from a stressful day… As Ceri says below, touring is definitely not glamorous!
