Vivaldi / The Man
These days Vivaldi is pretty much a household name, the violinist Nigel Kennedy having popularised his Four Seasons with his blockbuster recording of it which went on to sell over 2 million copies. It wasn’t always the case though, for when he died in 1741 he was forgotten, and was buried in a paupers grave. It was only in the 1930’s that his music was rediscovered..

The Night Shift features two really contrasting pieces - his energetic violin concerto in D major, an amazing vehicle and showcase for the solo violinist, and the emotionally powerful and moving piece for soprano and orchestra Nulla in Mundo Pax (In this world there is no honest peace). |
