Rising Stars of the Enlightenment

Launched in 2017, the Rising Stars of the Enlightenment is our singers scheme for talented, emerging artists. For each cohort, we take on up to eight singers on our two year long programme, in which our Stars perform regularly with the Orchestra on both the national and international stage.
"The ability to share knowledge with these wonderful singers has been a great source of happiness and pride. We're confident that they'll make a rich impact on the musical scene here in London and elsewhere."
Steven Devine, Principal Keyboard

Watch out for the stars

Our Rising Stars programme is part of a broader commitment to nurturing the next generation of performing artists. It sits alongside our well-established Experience scheme for instrumentalists where gifted and aspirational players are welcomed into our ranks, many of whom graduate to become regular members of the ensemble.

The Rising Stars will play a central role in our Bach, the Universe and Everything series; a non-traditional Sunday Service that mixes Bach’s cosmic music with talks on science and mathematics. Taking on Bach’s notoriously challenging cantatas, the Stars will sing some of Bach’s trickiest works at Kings Place in London and the Institute of Mathematics at the University of Oxford.

You can also see our new cluster of Stars in our new season at the Southbank Centre: Salvation and Damnation. The season kicks off with Mendelssohn’s Elijah at the Royal Festival Hall.

"The trust the OAE put in young singers to step up and take big roles in prestigious venues across the world is unparalleled. I also got to be part of a killer marketing campaign and confirmed that I look tremendous in a yellow painted jacket."
James Newby, Rising Star 2017-2019
